The exhibition ECHO. Wrapped in Memory looks at the intimate connection between clothing and memory through the eyes of three artists: visual artist Louise Bourgeois, fashion designer Simone Rocha, and choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker.
ECHO. Wrapped in Memory, curated by Elisa De Wyngaert, opens on October 14, 2023, and will be on view at MoMu - Fashion Museum Antwerp, until February 25, 2024.
On the occasion of this exhibition, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker / Rosas will present three new video works co-produced by MoMu, and created in collaboration with Ruben Desiere and Olivia Rochette.
In Vocabularium, dancers Cynthia Loemij and Boštjan Antončič, present over ninety excerpts from the more than sixty productions created by Rosas to date. The result is a fascinating overview of the oeuvre that reveals how the dance vocabulary as well as the approach to costumes evolved over the past forty years.
The second video, Sola, captures a new solo by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker, inspired by the dress that was also the starting point for her first dance solo, Violin Phase, in 1981. In addition to the turning, walking and jumping that characterize the choreography of Violin Phase, we recognize elements from De Keersmaeker's very first performance Asch (1980) and her latest solo The Goldberg Variations (2020).
In the third and last video, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker offers insights into specific costume choices and collaborations with designers, by examining a series of key Rosas performances in detail.
The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue, ECHO. Wrapped in Memory, published in English and Dutch by Lannoo.
