Bist du bei mir (The Goldberg Variations, BWV 998)

Invited by Festival Aperto en Fondazione I Teatri, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker created a new choreography for Collezione Maramotti. From November 22 until November 24, 2024, she will present Bist du bei mir at this museum in Reggio Emilia, Italy.

In this new project, De Keersmaeker draws on her most recent and perhaps most personal solo dance, The Goldberg Variations, BWV 998 (2020), based on Bach’s composition of the same name. Reimagined as a site-specific project in dialogue with Collezione Maramotti’s collection and architecture, the performance - created in collaboration with pianist Alain Franco - takes on the title Bist du bei mir, in reference to a 18th-century song by Gottfried Heinrich Stölzel. This song was recorded in the second Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach, in close proximity to the Goldberg Aria, which in this notebook appears for the first time as a standalone composition.

The performance will be presented on November 22 and 23 at 16:30, 18:30 and 20:30 and on November 24 at 14:00, 16:30 and 18:30
